Why I Design

I believe designs do have politics. It forms social inequities, but also inherent with the power to drive positive change.

I spent a year of my professional career working at a department called 'Social Impact Program', where we radically reflect on social problems and are dedicated to solving them through client or self-initiative projects. I co-worked with parents of LGBT+ children in China, designing service to Foster Family Acceptance of Their Queer Kids; worked with Asphyxia, a Deaf Australian activist, to understand How People with Hearing Impair Enjoy Music; initiated a Responsible Technology Board Game encouraging business and technology leaders to think about potential risks our digital solutions can bring to the society.

Before that, I initiated a student design group designing for rural revitalization, where we designed a Service Toolkit for Qingshan Village, a rural town nearby, bridging the emotional and financial needs of rural villagers with the interests of city tourists.

Me, Beyond Design

Own a Podcast
I explore social topics and how human-made artifacts shape our daily lives through my Mandarin podcast “和平小区 (he ping xiao qu)”. Co-host with a friend, we examine everyday routines through a queer lens, uncovering hidden assumptions. Our unique perspective earned us a featured spot on Apple Podcasts China's homepage.

Advocate Design Thinking
Design is a mindset, a tool of everyone, for everyone. I actively participated in & design for workshops, spreed the idea of human/social-centered design and forming space for collaboration and co-creations.

Painting
I'm a visual thinker. Sketching help me form my thoughts, express emotions and explore possibilities.
Let the graphics explain themselves :)
